Gear Picture(1936)

The Gear picture is from Modern Times. It depicts Chaplin on top of a gear. The scene shows Chaplin sliding up and down spinning gears in a factory setting. The scene shows the dangers that Charlie Chaplin went through in order to create his excellent films. Chaplin never used stunt mans as he did almost all of the stunts himself. This scene gives the audience a sense of uncertainty because they do not know whether or not he will make it through alive. This innovation helped influence other film makers with using ground-breaking film techniques that were popular at that time. On top of that, the audience is astonished by his ability to slide through gears without harming himself. By creating these feelings within the audience, Chaplin created films that gave America a new type of entertainment. What was once seen as a simple process now became a new medium for telling intricate stories.
